Who Is The Rich Old Bastard?
The Rich Old Bastard is a real person. He is a semi-retired businessman living in Florida. Imagine that “tough but lovable” old grandfather or uncle you had, or wish you had. You know, the type of guy who came up the hard way. The street-smart kind who knows how life really works because he has lived it. He is the no-nonsense guy who tells it like it is and doesn’t take any crap. I know a lot about him because he is my wise, all knowing uncle (my grandmother’s younger brother).
I have learned much more from this man than I ever did in college. Ever since I was a boy, he has been giving me advice on things from how to deal with bullies to how to pick up girls to how to fix my car. I didn’t always listen, but his advice always turns out to be right. He seems to know just about everything worth knowing, and he is honest enough to tell me what I need to hear instead of what I want to hear. I realize how lucky I am to have him around, and I know there are many others who could benefit from his wisdom, so I made this blog to share him with you.
I got the okay from my uncle as long as I promised to keep his name and personal information private, so on this blog he is known only as “The Rich Old Bastard” or “R.O.B.” for short. This is not meant as an insult, it’s a name he calls himself. He is actually a nice guy, just a bit “rough around the edges” (but don’t tell him I told you so).
The posts are all based on actual conversations I have had with him or heard him have with others. All the book and product recommendations are his.
The topics covered here are mostly (but not limited to);
1) Reality.
The Rich Old Bastard is, first and foremost, a realist. We live today in a world of make-believe. The entertainment, news, and education industries paint an inaccurate picture of the world. People are often told, and tell themselves, things they wish were true instead of things that actually are true.
Sometimes the truth is “unpleasant” and people would rather pretend it not so. Those who have the courage to speak the truth are often labeled “cynics” “skeptics” “haters” “trolls” or “deniers”. It is for these reasons the actual truth is so hard to find these days.
2) You.
The Rich Old Bastard is here to provide you with practical, real world advice to help you achieve success and happiness in life. R.O.B. tells you what you need to hear instead of what you might want to hear (as most other “advice-givers” or “experts” do).
3) Other People.
In order to get what you want in life, you must be able understand, deal with and influence other people. Like everything else in life, people must be handled based on how they actually are instead of how we think they should be or wish they were.
4) Money/Success.
Let’s face it, no matter how much people love pretend otherwise, money is a very, very important part of life. Many people (especially young people) have been conditioned to believe making money is somehow “wrong” or “bad”. Rich, successful people are often criticized and looked down upon. They are called “greedy” or a “sell-out”. This is unrealistic thinking at it’s worst. If that’s how you think, go join the communist party, The Rich Old Bastard is not for you.
5) Life in general.
Ideas and opinions on philosophy, nature and current events.

-Communists, Fascists, Socialists, “Occupy Wall Street” supporters.
-Cry-babies who are constantly “offended” by everything.
-Those suffering from mental illness.
